Parent Participation

Just as GGS creates a nurturing and safe environment for children to explore and grow, we also foster a welcoming community and network for parents. Getting involved is a great way to meet new people and feel connected in the community. Parent volunteers offer a huge resource and support base for the school community. If you feel you have time to get involved, we would love to have you!

Ways to Get Involved

  • Parent/Teacher Association (PTA)

The mission of the GGS PTA is to facilitate collaboration between teachers and parents to shape the culture and social life of the school. Upon registering at GGS parents are automatically members of the PTA. The group meets once every two months on Thursday.

  • Parent/Teacher Nights

Parent/Teacher Nights are held the first Tuesday night after each term starts. Parents and teachers come together to socialize, work on a project for an upcoming school event, learn what their children are doing in the classroom, and ask questions. Children are welcome except when the project is a surprise for them!

  • Class Parents

Class Parents directly collaborate with their Head Teacher/Class Teacher to organize and enable classroom activities, field trips, and social activities for parents and families. They also organize surprises and gestures of appreciation for the teachers. Each class has one to two class parents who help for the duration of the year.

  • Committees and Working Groups

As a not-for-profit school that keeps its overhead low, GGS is grateful to a number of parents who volunteer their expertise in support of the school. In addition to the Board of Trustees and financial oversight from the Finance Committee, parents help us with legal support, marketing support, environmental sustainability advice, health advice, etc. Please consider offering your expertise as part of our amazing parent team!

  • Gardening and Maintenance

GGS is grateful to the parents and volunteers who contribute to our facility upkeep efforts. From carrying buckets and buckets of fresh sand at the beginning of each school year, to painting gates and walls and classrooms, parent volunteers.

  • Trainings and Workshops

GGS makes every effort to offer trainings, workshops, and study groups on topics related to healthy parenting, healthy living, interesting and relxing artistic and cultural activities, and Waldorf/Steiner education. We always invite interested parents to organize such events, or attend them, and make every effort to partner with like-minded organizations to bring such events to a wider audience.
